It never ceases to inspire me how many caring and generous people do so many wonderful things for others in our great country.
Today I came across another example of such care and generosity and I wanted to share it with you all.
The Fowler Center for Outdoor Learning, located in Mayville, Michigan, has been providing year-round camping experiences for children and adults with developmental disabilities and special needs since 1957. This includes individuals with mental and physical challenges, autism, traumatic brain injuries, and sensory and communication challenges.
They focus on the ability of their campers to participate in outdoor learning experiences, evaluating their physical, mental and psychological abilities and removing barriers where possible.
They provide traditional camp activities that are completely accessible. This includes waterfront activities, sports & recreation, creative arts, challenge courses, horseback riding, picnics and more.
The Fowler Center serves thousands each year. Their goal is to offer a safe and comfortable environment so campers leave with memories of an enjoyable away-from-home experience, as well as new-found self-esteem, friendships, and pride.
So what does all this have to do with hunting and fishing, you ask?
Well, have you ever dreamed of getting paid for a day of fishing? How about $7,000 for one day of fishing?
Sound too good to be true? Well, there is a little bit of a "catch" (you should hope so anyways). You have to catch the "Grand Prize Pike" worth $7,000!
The Fowler Center will be hosting its 17th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament on Saturday, February 18, 2012.
Unfortunately, I am not going to make it to the tournament myself, because I live in Oregon, just under 2,500 miles away.
Besides, I will probably still be celebrating the victory of the Ducks over the Badgers in the Rose Bowl on January 2, 2012. Sorry Badger fans.
For those that live in the area, though, what a great opportunity to help out this non-profit organization that helps so many, by participating in one of our favorite activities.
