You Just Can't Beat Fishing!

Do you like to be in the beautiful outdoors, near the water, spending the day with friends and family or even by yourself? I do!

Even if you don’t catch any fish, at worst, you have just spent some quality time enjoying God’s beautiful creations.

At best, you do all the above, and you get to experience the excitement of having your rod tip dancing to the rhythm of the fish.

You can fish in beautiful weather and it’s a delight to soak in the warmth of the sun…

Or, your can fish in the rain and wind, and when you do get back into the warmth of everyday life, you appreciate it all the more.

Then, you and your family get to eat a delicious and healthy meal!

Fishing: It also teaches you patience, honor and gratitude.

Probably the only negative thing it may teach you is to stretch the truth a little (lie).
It is supposed that lying runs rampant in the angling community.

Is that just a myth? I think so.

What do you think? Post a comment.

  1. I'm not sure. It could go either way. I don't think it's out right lying, more stretching the truth than anything. You want to make that fish just a little bit longer, a little bit heavier, a little bit bigger around. Even if you take pictures, they can be deceiving.

  2. Fishermen lying??? Never.

Ok, I've enhanced a tale once or twice, not usually to exaggerate my catch, but more to downplay it. I'm all for sharing info with friends, but gotta keep those honey holes under wraps.

I do agree on the first part of your post...there's something about fishing (no matter what you do or don't catch) that makes it a very unique experience.

  4. Shoreman, I have probably done that (stretch the truth) myself once or twice... usually when it's a story about a fish I caught a long time ago and I can't quite remember how big it was. ;)

I definitely agree with you that pictures can be deceiving.

Troutrageous1, I have strggled in the past with the decision of whether or not to divulge exact locations. Come to think of it I guess I am usually a little vague when writing posts on my blog. However, I don't consider this lying, so we're okay!

I am more apt to share my honey holes with just good friends and family.

    Thanks for the comments!

  5. I think after a long day of hunting or fishing the littlest fish or tiniest buck, doe, cow or bull seem that much bigger. In a way we earn the right to puff up our experiences a bit.

  6. JBAP Hatch,

Hadn't really thought of it that way, but you're right! Maybe that's why they call it "braggin' rights".

Great to hear from you buddy. Hope school is going well for you.

  7. I've been known to tell a good fishing story. It's not that I'm really lying. I like to be enthusiastic about my story. I love fishing and it comes out when I'm telling a story. But sometimes when you've been catching 10 inchers, then you catch a 15 1/5 incher, it might seem bigger than it is. jcb
